During Spring Break construction will begin on the prominent intersection of Metchosin Road and Latoria Boulevard in partnership with the City of Colwood and Seacliff Properties/Reliance Properties. The signalization will enhance safety and ease of travel for residents and the wider community through more efficient traffic flow, increased transit accessibility, and enhanced pedestrian and cyclist mobility. When the Commons Retail Village opens in 2023, these improvements will facilitate convenient access to the amenities offered in the Village.
Traffic Management During Construction of the Signalized Intersection
These improvements will result in increased traffic delays. In order to minimize the length of traffic disruption, our traffic management strategy began with installation of the drainage and electrical infrastructure, which was completed last year. We will now proceed with road widening and signalization and will endeavour to keep beach access open for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. Completion of the intersection is expected in Fall 2022.
Related traffic improvements include the new Royal Bay Transit Exchange, bi-directional protected bike lanes, sidewalks, landscaping, and additional lanes including dedicated turning lanes at the intersection.
During the past year, Royal Bay has taken many big leaps forward thanks to our many partners and stakeholders, especially our residents and neighbours. They have graciously extended their patience, understanding, and support as these construction milestones have been achieved. We are grateful.
