Upgrades to drainage along Metchosin Road underway
As a precursor to intersection improvements at Latoria Boulevard and Metchosin Road, drainage upgrades along Metchosin Road are now underway.
To ensure the safety of the public and workers on site, single lane alternating traffic will be in place at Latoria Boulevard and Metchosin Road from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily. Commuters are asked to reduce speeds to 30 km/hour in the construction area and follow the direction of flag persons and signage. Short delays over the next four to five weeks should be expected at times.
Extensive work has occurred recently without interruption to the travelling public. Major electrical upgrades, bringing new BC Hydro circuitry online, were recently completed and a drain tunnel was bored under Metchosin Road. Intersection upgrades at Latoria Boulevard and Metchosin Road will facilitate improved access to Royal Beach and Royal Bay and support overall growth in the area. The upgrades will occur in early 2022.
New infrastructure is a key element to transforming over 400 acres of the former rock quarry into 2,100 new homes and neighbourhood shops and services in the next phase of Royal Bay, Latoria South. An elementary school, grocery store, and a new branch of the Royal BC Museum have recently been announced.
