Fun facts from around the Royal Bay community

Fisgard Lighthouse

The Fisgard Lighthouse, a staple of the Colwood community, cost $12,000 to build in 1860, equivalent to about $372,000 in 2019.

Painter Trail

Painter Trail is eco-friendly! The pathway is made up of reused and recycled materials from other construction and maintenance projects, and mulched yard waste from the Colwood Branch Drop Off.

Captain Langford

Captain Edward E. Langford named Colwood after his village in West Sussex, England.

Producer’s Pit

The land that Royal Bay is located on was once known as Producer’s Pit, a gravel extraction site which generated more than 20,000 tonnes of aggregate every day at the peak of its operations.

Congratulations to the Royal Bay Secondary School Ravens Senior Boys Soccer Team, who finished first in the Lower Island Soccer League this season and finished second in the Colonist Cup!
