The community and commercial gathering hub of Royal Bay is one shovel of dirt closer to becoming a reality! On July 20, 2021, leaders from GableCraft Homes, Pacific Capital Real Estate Group (PCRE), Quality Foods, and Cascadia Liquor joined together with representatives from local, provincial, and national government, as well as other important community stakeholders and members of the media, to celebrate the official ground-breaking of “The Commons at Royal Bay.”

With the sparkling Pacific Ocean as a backdrop, Director of Development Ben Mycroft introduced the principal collaborators on the project, including Mayor of Colwood Rob Martin and senior executives from Pacific Capital Real Estate Group, Quality Foods, and Cascadia Liquor, as they ceremonially turned soil on the land that will become The Commons.

Pacific Capital Real Estate Group is the main development partner of GableCraft Homes for this tree-lined, pedestrian-oriented retail village, and Quality Foods will be the main anchor tenant for the 76,000-square-foot mixed-use urban place. Cascadia Liquor will also lease one of the larger spaces in The Commons. In addition to these two marquee tenants, plans for The Commons call for the inclusion of medical offices, a sit-down licensed restaurant, a daycare with outdoor play area, and a full-service pharmacy. Tenants for these amenities are to be announced in the coming months, with opening dates slated for early 2023.

To support the daily needs of residents and the surrounding Westshore communities, The Commons is perfectly situated on a key commuter route in the Royal Bay neighbourhood. This district of the master planned community is rapidly accelerating, and will also include a 500-student elementary school, an Island Health long-term care centre, space for a daycare, and the Royal BC Museum Collections and Research Facility in addition to The Commons.

Housing is also a significant part of the plans for Latoria South, with about 2,100 homes planned for all ages and stages of life. GableCraft homes will lead construction on approximately 1,100 single-family homes and townhouses, while PCRE will build condominium and rental apartments for the area. The first new Royal Bay neighbours on this portion of land will move in come 2023.

We hope that you are as excited as we are about the opportunities to live, work, play, and enjoy life seaside that The Commons will bring to our community!
